Kayaking on Lake Arenal

Costa Rica’s largest lake, Lake Arenal is a beautiful, calm and peaceful place to go kayaking in Costa Rica. It is just outside of la Fortuna and is sits at the base of the  famous Arenal Volcano.

While kayaking on Lake Arenal you will get immersed in the quiet and peaceful nature of the area. On a clear day you will get to see the towering Arenal Volcano and be blown away by it’s overwhelming beauty and the sheer size of it.

Lake Arenal is a human made lake, originally created for hydroelectric energy production, and has since been a cherished adventure playground by travellers and locals alike.

After a 15 minute drive to the lake, our professional kayak guide will get you geared up with your kayaks, paddles and lifejackets and give you a brief explanation of basic kayaking techniques.

During your paddle, your guide will point out birds like flycatchers, Kingfishers, Great Blue Herons, and Anhingas that often make an impression, and with any luck we will hear the Howler monkeys from inside the forest.

After paddling for a while, we will pull over on the side of the lake and have a chance to cool off and go for a swim, take some photos and enjoy a delicious snack and beverages that is provided by your guide.
