Coffee Sugarcane & Cacao Tour

This Coffee, Sugarcane and Cacao Tour in Costa Rica is an interesting, fun and delicious way to spend an afternoon. These are the three most treasured and yummy crops grown in Costa Rica and because they are are processed in very specific way, you’ll learn a lot. You will never forget this tour next time you open up a chocolate bar or drink a cup of coffee back home!

When you arrive at the plantation, you will begin with a coffee tour and learning about coffee in Costa Rica and pick some coffee beans yourself – and by coffee beans, we mean the red coffee “cherries” that house the beans until they are peeled open to be roasted.

You will witness the entire drying and roasting processes that are  very important to determine what flavour you would like your cup of coffee to have. Each coffee plantation in Costa Rica has their own signature technique, and your taste buds will love the coffee from this farm!

Next stop – sugar! Eating sugarcane or drinking the juice is not as unhealthy as you may think.  Sugarcane actually contains a wide variety of minerals and electrolytes, which is why throughout history, the local people drink the juice or chew on the plant to revitalize themselves on a hot day. You will also have a chance to take a shot of a very popular hard liquor made from the sugarcane plant.

The third part of the Coffee, Sugarcane and Cacao tour is  considered the most delicious to many…

They say money doesn’t grow on trees, but thats okay because chocolate does!

Seriously, cacao pods actually grow on trees. And after harvesting, the pods are cut open to expose  cacao beans that are covered in a fruity white pulp. The entire process of chocolate making from bean to bar is very complex and requires a lot of work. This is why real chocolate is so expensive.

After seeing the process and tasting real chocolate, we doubt that you will eat the fake stuff again.

When the tour is over and you have taken lots of pictures, we’ll take you back to “Grandma’s House” to enjoy some coffee and snacks while you put your feet up and share your photos.
