Horseback Riding to the Waterfall or Volcano

Horseback Riding in Costa Rica – La Fortuna Waterfall

There is nothing that gets you closer to nature than a good horseback ride. This tour Horseback Riding to the La Fortuna Waterfall is a good combination of rest and exercise and allows you to go on two tours for the price of one.

No experience is needed on this tour, but you should be fit enough to climb down and up about 300 stairs, while taking your time of course, to soak in the gorgeous views. It may sound like a challenge, but what challenge isn’t worth seeing an amazing, 70 meter high, thundering waterfall.

You’ll start the tour meeting your professional “cowboys”, that work synergistically with their trained and well taken care of horses. They will provide a helmet and instructions if you have never gone horseback riding before.

We will ride our horses through private farms, forests and up hills, all surrounded by deep jungle. Many people comment of how peaceful it is to listen to the loud jungle sounds and to be surrounded by such exquisite + exotic nature. Horseback Riding in Costa Rica has come to be a favourite activity for kids and animal lovers.

When you reach the entrance of the La Fortuna Waterfall at the top of the hill, we will leave our horses in our shaded “horse parking lot” and start our hike down to the base of the waterfall.

Yet another opportunity to see exotic nature, but up-close. Keep your eye out for different types of birds and bring your camera to take photos of the view.

And don’t forget your bathing suit! Swimming in the cool crystalline waters of the waterfall pool will be one of the highlights and will cool you off from your hike. You will have plenty of time to get the perfect selfie in front of the massive waterfall to post for your Instagram followers!

When we are all ready to go we will walk back up the path to greet our horses once again and ride back down to the stables.

Horseback Riding in Costa Rica –  Arenal Volcano

The second option for Costa Rica horseback riding is near the Arenal Volcano. This might be a better option for those who don’t want to exert as much energy hiking.

When we arrive at the ranch, your cowboys will greet you and get you set up with your horses depending on your level of experience. Then, they will take you horseback riding through a series of beautiful private farms that boarder the Arenal Volcano and the lush, dense rainforest.  Past riders have noted that they have seen a lot of flora and fauna on their rides. Feel free to bring your camera and binoculars to get a closer look at birds or other interesting, exotic creatures we may find.

The Arenal Volcano will be hovering over our every move and on a clear day you can see all of the detailed rock formations of its structure due to its recent activity. This volcano used to spew lava on a regular basis, but has since been considered as “sleeping”. To see a volcano up-close is a truly incredible experience, and once-in-a-lifetime for most people around the world.
